Names 2011 All-Independent Men's Basketball Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- For the second year in a row, Chapman University’s Justin Riley, who led the Panthers in scoring, rebounds and blocks, headlines the 2011 All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams announced today by the Association of Division III Independents.   

Riley, a senior forward from San Dimas, Cal., averaged 16 points and seven rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in 25 of 27 games, and he shot 59 percent from the floor.

Joining Riley on the first team are Ryan Matsuoka, University of California, Santa Cruz; Clifford McDonald, University of Maine-Presque Isle; Griffin Ramme, Chapman University; Ross Davidson, University of Dallas; and Nathan Roeder, North Central University.

Chapman head coach Mike Bokosky, who led the Panthers to a 25-4 record (the 25 wins matched a school record), was selected as the coach of the year for the third consecutive year. Chapman defeated Redlands in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship tournament before it was knocked out by top-ranked Whitworth, 77-63, in the second round. Bokosky has guided Chapman to 18 consecutive winning seasons, including a current streak of 20 or more victories for the past six seasons.

The coaches selected University of Dallas freshman forward-center Ross Davidson as the rookie of the year. Davidson averaged 15 points and nearly eight rebounds per game.

The All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams were selected by the men’s basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in 2010-11. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
