Names 2006 All-Independent Women’s Basketball Teams

 

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Nicole Hall, a sophomore guard from Meredith College, heads the All-Independent Women’s Basketball team announced today by the Association of Division III Independents.

The Raleigh, NC, native, who averaged 17.8 points and five assists per game, was named the player of the year. She led the Angels in scoring, assists and steals (4.1 per game), and scored in double figures in all 24 games.

Meredith head coach David Zinn, who led the Angels to a pair of victories at the Association of Division III Independents Northeast Region Championship, was named the coach of the year. Meredith finished the season with a 13-11 record.

Colorado College freshman guard Melanie Auguste, who averaged 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, was named the rookie of the year. Auguste was named the most valuable player at the Association of Division III West Region Championship.

The All-Independent Women’s Basketball teams were selected by the women’s basketball coaches from member schools of the Association of Division III Independents.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 1p Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports in 2005-06. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce all-Independent teams at the conclusion of 10 other sports this year.
