KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Forward Annick Lamb and goalkeeper Katie Loomis of the University of California, Santa Cruz, headline the All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams named today by the Association of Division III Independents. Lamb, a sophomore from Santa Barbara, CA, who scored 20 goals, including 10 game-winning goals, was named the offensive player of the year. Loomis, a junior goalkeeper from Tacoma, WA, was named the goalkeeper of the year after she allowed only two goals all season. Both players were instrumental in helping the Banana Slugs to a 17-0-4 record. The Slugs advanced to the third round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the first time but lost to Hardin-Simmons on penalty kicks (4-1). Meredith College was well-decorated with special awards as Margot Childs was selected as the defensive player of the year, Maggie Hart was selected as the rookie of the year and Paul Smith was selected as the coach of the year. Childs, a senior defender from Raleigh, NC, who also was named to the AD3I first team last year, was the anchor of the defense and was named to the NSCAA All-South Region team. Hart, a freshman forward from Mooresville, NC, led the team with 21 goals and six assists. Smith led the Angels to a 17-4-1 record, the best in school history. The Angels advanced to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the first time in school history. The All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were selected by the women’s soccer coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools.
