Names 2009 All-Independent Women’s Soccer Teams

 

 

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- The 2009 All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents. 

Offensive Player of the Year

Kiauna Hemsley, Trinity Washington University, SO, Forward, Baltimore, Md. – Nationally ranked in goals per game (32nd with 1.00) and points per game (46th with 2.13), Hemsley scored 15 goals and had two assists in 15 games. 

 

Defensive Player of the Year

Katie Moody, University of Maine-Presque Isle, SR, Defender, Presque Isle, ME – Named the top AD3I defender for the second year in a row.  Moody was the anchor of a defense that gave up only 17goals all season.  

Rookie of the Year

Lainey Herring, University of Maine-Presque Isle, FR, Forward, Houlton, Me. – Only a freshman, Herring led the Owls with 16 goals and four assists. 

Coach of the Year

Beth Stone, Trinity Washington University – Stone led Trinity Washington to an 8-7 record in 2009.

The All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were selected by the women’s soccer coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 14 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
