Names 2011 All-Independent Women’s Soccer Teams

 

OVERLAND PARK, KAN.--- The 2011 All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents.

Offensive Player of the Year
Lainey Herring,
University of Maine-Presque Isle, JR, Forward, Houlton, Me. – One of the AD3I’s top strikers, Herring scored 14 goals (three game winners) in 2011.

Defensive Player of the Year
Antonia Darragh
, University of California, Santa Cruz, SO, Defender, Davis, Cal. – A center back who was the defensive stalwart for Santa Cruz’s back line the past two years, Darragh’s consistency and commitment were huge factors in the program’s turnaround.

Co-Rookies of the Year
Sarah Sadler
, University of California, Santa Cruz, FR, Forward, Davis, Cal. – Scored seven goals and added one assist in 2011.

Kamillah Al-Warith, Trinity Washington University, FR, Defender, Washington, D.C. –Originally a center back who was switched to outside back, Al-Warith was the key defender for Trinity Washington.

Coach of the Year
Josh Schelhorse
, University of California, Santa Cruz.

The All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were selected by the women’s soccer coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 11 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
