of Division III Independents
KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Nicole Brandt-Young, a first-team AVCA All-American who set numerous school records at Cal State Hayward this year leads the first All-Independent Women’s Volleyball teams named today by the Association of Division III Independents. Brandt-Young was named the offensive player of the year while the Pioneers head coach, Jim Spagle, was named the coach of the year. Cal State Hayward finished the season with a 31-3 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship. New Jersey City University freshman sensation Lizzelle Cintron, who led the nation with 831 kills, fourth most in Division III history, was named the rookie of the year. The All-Independent Women’s Volleyball teams were selected by the women’s volleyball coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools. First Team MB

Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III
independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes
at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship
competition in seven sports in 2004-05. The Association recognizes outstanding
athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and
annual basis. For the first time, the Association provides statistical
services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce
all-Independent teams at the conclusion of 10 other sports this year.
