Green Mountain College 2, Meredith College 1
Poultney, VT - As one would expect a Championship game to be, this was a nail-biter. Halftime saw a 0-0 tie and play was vigorously spent up and down the pitch with both teams having opportunities at breaking down the opponent's defense all game. Meredith held the lead in shots (14-6) and both teams were tied in corners throughout the game (5-5). The scoring was all in the second half.
Green Mountain College Eagles opened the bidding with a strike from Andrea Pollack assisted by Marty Jorgensen in the first two minutes of the second half. Meredith continued to exert a tremendous amount of pressure forcing Eagle's net minder Claire Davis to come up with a goal scoring save.
With 12 minutes remaining GMC put another in the back of the net on a corner from Amanda Jeffers. Monique Couture scored a devastating header to double the lead. Meredith College Angels pushed even harder and came up with an answer two minutes later (9:59 left) with a deftly slotted ball by Karen Taylor to Erin Cooper who coolly slipped the ball into the back of the Eagle's net. GMC's Claire Davis came with one more goal saving effort and the Championship was Green Mountain College's.
Stephanie Wells made 2 saves on 6 shots for the Angels and Claire Davis made 8 saves on 14 shots for the Eagles.
Meredith College awaits the opportunity for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 17-3-1 record. Green Mountain College finishes the season at 18-1.
