Division III Committee Appointment Process

  1. Vacancies are published in The NCAA News and placed on NCAA Fax-on Demand System. In addition, Sharon Tufano, NCAA committee coordinator, will e-mail all committee vacancies to Ted Breidenthal at the Association's headquarters office in Kansas City.
  2. Nominations are submitted in writing and are received in the NCAA national office and compiled by the committee coordinator. Self-nominations, nominations by peers or committees are accepted. Nominations are active for two years and can be updated at any time. In the Fall of 2003, the NCAA unveiled an on-line committee nomination system.
  3. Nominee Information Form is faxed to nominee and must be returned by deadline.
  4. Summary of nominees and copies of Nominee Information Forms are forwarded to the Division III Nominating Committee for review in February and September. The Nominating Committee forwards its recommendations for appointments to the appropriate appointing body. The nominations for Division III General Committees and Division III Representatives to Association-wide Committees are forwarded to the Management Council before being sent to the Presidents Council for ratification. Nominations for Sports Committees and Sports Rules Committees are forwarded to the Championships Committee, before going to the Management Council for approval and the Presidents Council for ratification.
  5. Appointees are notified by the committee coordinator and are provided with copies of the NCAA Travel Handbook, Instructions to Members of NCAA Committees and the Committee Appointment Acceptance Form.
