Regula’s Triple-Double Lifts St. Joe’s over St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn
STANDISH, ME - Kaylin Regula (Windham, ME) recorded the first triple-double of her career with 12 boards, 10 points and 12 assists as Saint Joseph's College edged St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn, 64-62 in overtime. The Monks (9-16) will take on Maine Presque Isle in the championship game of the Division III Independents Northeast Tournament at the Alfond Center tomorrow at 12:00 pm. The Lady Bears finish the season 18-11.
St. Joe’s (NY) held a 35-28 advantage going into the break due to the sharp shooting of junior Lynette Reyes (4/4 3-PT) who finished with a game-high 24 points. Sophomore Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) kept the Monks within striking distance, connecting on 4/4 from the floor in the first half.
The teams battled back and forth in the second half with the Bears holding an 8 point lead with 6:40 to play. St. Joe’s answered back as senior Danielle Somma (Gray, ME) grabbed an offensive board, scored the stick-back and knocked down a jumper and two free-throws to cap a 9-0 run and put the Monks up 56-55 at the 2 minute mark.
Reyes tied the game with an offensive rebound and lay-up and sophomore Tara Deahn (Queens, NY) stole the SJC pass in but came up short on her jumper. After a St. Joe’s timeout and a deflection by the Bears, the Monks in bounded the ball to Regula who was fouled and converted 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game with 26 left. Deahn’s deep three fell short at the end of regulation with the score deadlocked 57-57.
St. Joe’s went on to outscore the Bears 7-5 in the extra 5 minutes with Somma draining a 12 foot jump shot to start the overtime. Sophomore Ashton Coutu (Danville, VT) grabbed two offensive boards and a steal to finish with a season-high 9 rebounds. Sophomore Annamarie Ciorciari (Queens, NY) finished the game with 14 points for the Bears, including all 5 of her team’s points in overtime and Deahn had 9 points.
The St. Joe’s squad turned in their finest team effort of the season with 4 players reaching double figures and two more recording 9 points. Somma and Farrell had 10 points apiece while Pierre-Jacques finished with 10 points and 9 boards. Sophomore Marie Lint (Orono, ME) and first year Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) both had 9 points and 6 boards.
