Three Grants Available for Independent SWAs to attend NACWAA Fall Forum
The Division III governance structure endorsed continuation of the NCAA Division III initiatives programs as well as additional proposals to further enhance key priority areas. One such area is the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) enhancement grant program. Beginning in 2004-05, in an effort to more fully engage SWAs in campus and conference affairs, Division III will award grants to SWAs representing each of the 42 Division III voting conferences and three representatives from the Association of Division III Independents to attend the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) Fall Forum in October.
The Association of Division III Independents Executive Committee will discuss grant applications for three independent SWAs during a July 13 conference call. If you are interested in applying for the grant and sending your SWA to the Fall Forum, contact Ted Breidenthal (816/474-7264) no later than July 12. The Executive Committee will select the three who will receive the grants shortly thereafter.
The Fall Forum dates are October 9-12 in New York City at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, 811 7 th Avenue on 53 rd Street. The phone number is 212-581-1000. In order to receive a grant to attend the NACWAA Fall Forum, the recipient must attend a 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. workshop on Saturday, October 9 , as well as the other sessions offered, including a Division III breakout session on Monday morning, October 11. The Saturday workshop, entitled "Empowerment of the SWA - Facts, Myths and Realities," will provide valuable educational and practical information for Division III SWAs. The intent on conclusion of the Fall Forum is that each conference will support and assist their SWA representative to meet with their colleagues to review the information shared during the Forum.
Each SWA selected will receive airfare (or mileage) to New York ; lodging at the Fall Forum headquarters hotel up to four nights; Fall Forum registration fee; and other related expenses not to exceed $1,500 total. Registration and hotel arrangements must be done through NACWAA.
The selection process for 2004 is intended to give priority to those SWAs who have not previously attended a NACWAA Fall Forum. In future years, we would request that the SWAs within each conference and Association of Division III Independents develop a selection process to determine their representative and a rotation to receive NCAA funding. It should be noted that more than one woman per conference can be supported; however, funds cannot exceed $1500.
