Wylie named Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lincoln University ( Pa.) junior guard Sami Wylie ( Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. Wylie averaged 18 points per game and made 21-of-43 three-pointers (48.8%) as the No. 21 Lions went 3-1 on the week. Wylie was named to the All-Tournament team at both the Franklin & Marshall and Coaches vs. Cancer tournaments. Wylie scored 22 points as Lincoln defeated Franklin & Marshall, 100-76, to win the F&M tournament title. It was Lincoln’s first win over F&M since December 14, 1950. Wylie is coached by Garfield Yuille.

Whitney receives Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY , Mo. – Colorado College sophomore forward Paige Whitney ( Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. On the week, Whitney averaged 14.3 points and 8.5 rebounds a game while leading Colorado College to a 3-1 record. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the University of Redlands New Year’s Tournament after averaging 20 points and 11 boards a game. Whitney also recorded her first career double-double in a 71-63 semifinal victory over St. Joseph’s College (N.Y.), then posted another with 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in a 67-54 loss to Redlands in the championship game. Whitney, who is coached by Kelly Mahlum, leads the team in scoring and blocked shots and is second in rebounding.
