Hrabik named Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior guard M.J. Hrabik ( Syracuse, Neb.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. Hrabik averaged 19.5 points per game as NWU split a pair at the Div. III Independent Tournament played in Santa Cruz, Calif., February 24-25. He started the tournament by scoring a career-high 23 points against the host Banana Slugs. He was 6-for-9 from three-point range, including a trey that snapped a 62-62 tie with 15 seconds remaining. After Santa Cruz missed a three-pointer, Hrabik rebounded and was fouled. His two free throws with :01 left gave the Prairie Wolves the win, 67-62. In the tourney championship, Hrabik scored a team-high 16 points in a 76-67 loss to Chapman University. For the week, Hrabik averaged 19.5 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and finished 10-for-16 from beyond the arc (.625). Hrabik, who is coached by Mark Franzen, was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

 

Schlecht receives Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY , Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior forward Angie Schlecht ( Clearwater, Neb.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. Angie scored 60 points in 61 minutes of action as NWU split a pair of games at the Div. III Independent Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. She opened the tournament by scoring a career-high 33 points as the Prairie Wolves shocked regionally-ranked Chapman University 91-67. The Panthers (17-7 overall coming in) were ranked No. 6 in the West Region for NCAA Div. III. In the upset, Schlecht went 12-for-18 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range. The following night, she posted 27 points and 9 rebounds in a 73-68 overtime loss to Colorado College (15-10) in the championship game. Schlecht was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 30 points and 6.5 rebounds. She also shot 55 percent from the field (22-for-40) and 68 percent from the line (13-for-19). Schlecht is coached by Amy Sander.
