Kantor named Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior pitcher/center fielder Troy Kantor (Lincoln , Neb.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week. Kantor threw two complete-game six-hitters as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated a pair of regionally ranked opponents last week. At NAIA Region III No. 4 ranked Dakota Wesleyan University on April 3, he allowed just three hits after the second inning and drove in the tying run in the top of the third, helping NWU win 4-1. Against NAIA Region III No. 6 Hastings College on April 9, Kantor gave up just one earned run in 10 innings of work and went 4-for-5 at the plate. Three of his hits tied the game on three separate occasions and his final hit in the bottom of the seventh sent the game into extra innings. NWU eventually won game one 4-3 in 10 innings. For the week, Kantor compiled a 1.06 ERA on just 12 hits and two earned runs in 17 innings pitched. He was also 7-for-19 (.368) at the plate with a .478 on-base percentage. Kantor, who is coached by Bill Fagler, improves to 3-2 on the season while the Prairie Wolves improve to 8-13 overall after a 4-2 record last week.

 

Burrola receives Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Joseph’s College freshman pitcher/second baseman Gabrielle Burrola (Gallup, N.M.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week. Burrola struck out four batters, singled, and scored a run in a 6-4 win over Maine Maritime. She went 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored in game two as Saint Joseph’s won 10-5. After the 2-0 week, Burrola improves to 4-5 on the year with an ERA of 1.93. Burrola is coached by Jamie Smyth.

 

Knight named Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University sophomore middle distance runner Evan Knight (Keystone, Neb.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the Week. Knight won the 800 at the Concordia University Invitational and qualified automatically for the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:50.92. His mark was a personal best and ranks third in Nebraska Wesleyan history. It also broke a stadium record. Knight also ran a 48.4 split on the 4x400 relay, which placed second with a time of 3:20.80. Knight is coached by Dr. Ted Bulling.
