Kantor named Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week for second consecutive weekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior pitcher/center fielder Troy Kantor ( Lincoln , Neb. ) has been named the Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Kantor gave up just five hits and a walk in three pitching appearances last week and racked up a win and two saves in the process as NWU went 4-2. He finished with a 2.16 ERA in 8 1/3 total innings pitched. He came on to earn the save in both wins over Dordt College on April 14 (3-2 and 4-1) and then had a complete-game showing in a 6-3 win over Morningside College on April 15. He was also a difference maker at the plate going 4-for-10 with a pair of doubles, six walks, and an on-base percentage of .647 for the week. Kantor is coached by Bill Fagler.

Burrola receives second straight Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week awardKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Joseph’s College freshman pitcher/second baseman Gabrielle Burrola ( Gallup, N.M.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week for the second straight week. Burrola went 3-0 on the mound on her way to a 1.84 ERA for the week. She also recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up just five earned runs. She contributed from the plate as well as she batted .526 (10-for-19), including six RBI and five runs scored. Burrola, who is coached by Jamie Smyth, helped St. Joseph’s to a 6-0 mark on the week.

Droge named Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the WeekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University sophomore long jumper Jed Droge ( Pawnee City , Neb. ) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the Week. Droge won the long jump at the dual meet hosted by Doane College on April 14. His jump of 24-2 is a career best, an automatic NCAA qualifying mark, and the second best in Div. III this season. Knight is coached by Dr. Ted Bulling.

Powell receives second Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week awardKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior jumper/sprinter Erin Powell ( Beaver City, Neb.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year. Powell won three individual events and ran a leg on NWU’s winning 4x100 relay (48.77) at a dual meet hosted by Doane College on April 14. Individually, she won the 100 (12.78), long jump (18-6.75), and broke Kim Oden’s school record from 1989 in the triple jump (39-2). Powell is coached by Dr. Ted Bulling.
