Ohail earns Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week award

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chapman University sophomore first baseman Patrick Ohail (Yorba Linda, Calif.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week. On the week, Ohail batted .429 (6-for-14) with a pair of home runs and five RBI. After batting .500 in three games, he was named to the Chapman Invitational All-Tournament Team. Chapman is now 30-5 overall and ranked No. 2 in NCAA Div. III. Ohail is coached by Tom Tereschuk.

 

Kavanagh named Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – St. Joseph’s College (N.Y.) senior shortstop/outfielder Carol Jeanne Kavanagh (Queens, N.Y.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week. Kavanagh enjoyed one of the best offensive weeks in school history, as the Lady Bears went 4-2 in six important conference games and earned a share of first place in the Hudson Valley standings. On the week, Kavanagh hit an amazing .720 (18-of-25) with eight runs scored, six doubles, two triples, one home run, one stolen base and an unbelievable 22 RBI. For the week, she recorded a 1.240 slugging percentage.

 

Young receives Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the Week award

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lincoln University (Pa.) senior sprinter Bobby Young (Providence, R.I.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men’s track and field Athlete of the Week. Young sizzled at the Greyhound Invitational last weekend as he set a meet record in the 400-meter dash en route to winning the race (47.07). In addition to automatically qualifying for the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships, Young was also a member of the winning and record-setting 4x400-meter relay squad (3:11.94) who recorded the fastest 4x4 time in Div. III this season thus far. Widener established the previous record in 2001 (3:19.30) and Young helped Lincoln lower that mark by nearly eight seconds.

 

Parker earns Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week honors

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lincoln University (Pa.) senior sprinter Ashley Parker (Pleasantville, N.J.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week. Parker highlighted a strong effort by the Lincoln women at the Moravian Greyhound Classic. Individually, she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships after finishing second in the 200-meter dash (25.20) and she was also a member of the winning 4x400-meter relay team (3:51.35), which produced Lincoln’s fastest outdoor time of the season. Additionally, Parker helped the 4x1 team to a second place finish behind Div. I Monmouth (47.02). Both relay teams automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with their performances.
