Riutta receives Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Finlandia University junior catcher Jana Riutta ( Houghton, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week. On the week, Riutta went a perfect 8-for-8 to lead Finlandia to a 2-0 week. In addition to her 1.000 on base percentage, Riutta scored three runs, hit three doubles, had four RBI, and recorded one stolen base. For the week, Finlandia defeated the University of Dallas, 6-5, and Mount Mary, 12-7. With the pair of wins, the Lions, who are coached by Steve Lishinski, improve to 9-19 overall.

 

Baldwin named Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University freshman distance runner Bridget Baldwin ( Omaha , Neb. ) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s track and field Athlete of the Week. Baldwin ran an 11:03.53 at the Drake Relays to break Kami Long’s team record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Baldwin is coached by Dr. Ted Bulling.

The Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week awards program begins on September 12, 2005 and is based on nominations from the organization's member schools.
