Curcio named Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lancaster Bible College junior pitcher/first baseman Lou Curcio (Hatfield, Pa.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents baseball Player of the Week. Curcio helped lead his team to an NCCAA East Region Title last week, as well as their second trip to nationals in three years. The team captain pitched 8.1 innings on the week, including a regular season save and a complete-game win in the regional championship game. He allowed just eight hits and four earned runs as he struck out eight. Curcio batted .500 (7-for-14), scored four runs and drove in five.

 

Mendez selected as Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – St. Joseph’s College (N.Y.) senior outfielder Theresa Mendez (Queens, N.Y.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents softball Player of the Week. Mendez helped the Lady Bears to a 6-0 record on the week and the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference title with a 2-1 victory over St. Elizabeth in nine innings. The senior centerfielder batted .500 (8-for-16), had a slugging percentage of .688 and added six runs and five RBI. In the victory over St. Elizabeth, Mendez picked up two of her team’s six hits and hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning that drove in the game-tying run, allowing St. Joseph’s to clinch the victory in the ninth.
