Fichthorn receives Association of Division III Independents women’s cross country Runner of the Week honorKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Salem College junior Rachel Fichthorn (Nokesville, Va.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents women’s cross country Runner of the Week. Fichthorn won the Salem College Invitational with a school-record time of 20:34 on a hilly 5K course. Her time bettered the previous school record by 24 seconds. Fichthorn has already broken school records in the 4K, 5K and 6K for Salem this season. Salem also captured the women’s team title with each of their top five finishers placing in the top 12 overall.

McCallum earns Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week awardKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University sophomore forward Cole McCallum (Norfolk, Neb.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week. McCallum broke a scoreless tie with less than 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime as the Prairie Wolves won at Northwestern on Sept. 12. Then, at Dakota Wesleyan on Sept. 16, he scored what later proved to be the game-winning goal at 49:28 as NWU defeated the Tigers 2-1 and improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Three of McCallum’s team-leading five goals this season have been game-winners.

Clem receives Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the WeekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Salem College freshman forward Liz Clem (Merced, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. Clem scored four goals on the week to help the Spirits raise their record to 6-0-1 overall. Wednesday, she netted a pair of goals to help her team defeat Peace College, 6-2. On Sunday, she added two more goals, including the game-winner, in a 2-1 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Espinosa named Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the WeekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Mills College sophomore outside hitter Karen “Sally” Espinosa (Yorkville, Calif.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Espinosa led the Cyclones with 27 total kills and 3.4 kills per game in two conference matches on the week. She pounded 15 kills against Bethany University and added 12 against Menlo College, giving her a .320 hitting percentage on the week. Additionally, she averaged over three digs per game with 25 total digs in eight games. |
