PATRICK McGINNIS Patrick McGinnis of Colorado College (4-1) is the first-ever Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week in men's soccer after a spectacular opening five games of the season, in which he scored an amazing 20 points on nine goals and two assists. McGinnis currently leads the nation among Division III players in goals and points per game after week one of the 2004 season, and was one of two players to post a four-goal game in that span. McGinnis scored seven goals in two games to begin the season. On September 1, he netted four goals in a win over Johnson & Wales University (RI). McGinnis notched a hat-trick in a win over Central College of September 5. He also scored twice in a win over California Lutheran on September 11.

HEATHER HARTMAN Heather Hartman of CSU-East Bay (2-0-3) is the first-ever Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week in women's soccer after recording a pair of shutouts last week. Hartman made 10 saves without allowing a goal in 214 minutes of action. The Pioneers had a 0-0 tie against Lewis and Clark College and a 1-0 victory over Whittier College .

LIZZELLE CINTRON Lizzelle Cintron of New Jersey City University (4-1) is the first-ever Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week in women's volleyball in a week in which she became the first freshman ever to be named Division III National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in their first week as a collegiate player. In the first five matches to begin the year, Cintron has led NJCU to a 4-1 record, the Gothic Knights' best start since 1992. She is averaging an astounding 6.88 kills, 8.62 points, 5.25 digs, 1.25 blocks and 0.56 aces per game, while hitting an amazingly accurate .449. Cintron will be among the national leaders in all categories. Cintron, the 2003 New Jersey High School Player of the Year, became the first player in NJCU history to have a 30-30 match when she notched 32 kills and 30 digs in a 3-1 win over St. Joseph's College-Patchogue on September 4. The 32 kills are the third most in a match in school history, and she is only the eighth player to have 30 digs in a match. She tied the school record for kills in a three-game match in back-to-back matches with 25 against both Centenary College and St. Joseph 's on September 4 and September 11, respectively. Her statistic totals for 16 games were 110 kills, 84 digs, 20 blocks, nine aces and 138.0 points.
