Siller named Association of Division III Independents men’s cross country Runner of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Newbury College sophomore Herrell Siller (Palo Alto, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s cross country Runner of the Week. Siller ran a 25:43 8K on his way to first place and the course record at the Elms College Blazer Invitational on Sept. 23. The previous course record (25:59) also came from him during the 2005 season. As a team, Newbury finished second out of four teams. Siller is coached by David Manewell.

Willis receives Association of Division III Independents women’s cross country Runner of the Week honor KANSAS CITY, Mo. – St. Joseph’s College (Maine) junior Sarah Willis (Buckland, Mass.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents women’s cross country Runner of the Week. Willis helped the women’s team take 12th place out of 23 scoring teams at the Gordon College Invitational on Saturday. Willis, who is coached by Tom Dann, recorded a 5K time of 20:21 giving her 12th place overall.

Lunger receives Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week award KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Dallas sophomore forward Adam Lunger (Keller, Texas) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week. Lunger scored a goal in a 4-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Sept. 20 and he followed up that performance with a pair of goals and the game-winning assist as UD defeated rival Austin College, 4-3, in overtime on Sept. 23. Lunger, who is coached by David Hoffman, leads the team in goals (8) and points (19). The Crusaders are 6-1-1 on the season.

Shadd honored as Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the WeekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cal State East Bay senior midfielder Ashley Shadd (Pleasanton, Calif.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. Shadd had a productive week for the Pioneers scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-1 East Bay win on Sept. 18. She also tied a school record with four goals scored in a 4-3 overtime victory over CSU-Monterey Bay on Sept. 20 and scored East Bay’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Dominican University on Sept. 22. Shadd, who is coached by Amy Foreman, has a team-high nine goals on the season. Cal State East Bay is 5-1-1 overall.

Sassenus named Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the WeekKANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Dallas senior middle blocker Nikki Sassenus (Diamond Bar, Calif.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Sassenus broke the school individual match record for block assists in a three-game match with seven against Mid-America Christian on Sept. 21. The middle blocker now holds four of nine individual blocking records at UD. On the week, Sassenus tallied 13 kills en route to a .333 hitting percentage along with four service aces. She dominated at the net and came up with six block solos and 12 block assists (2.25 blocks/game) in the process. The Crusaders picked up their third straight win and finished the week 2-0, improving their overall record to 8-8. Sassenus leads the team in total blocks (66) and solo blocks (26) on the year. |
