Williford named Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. - University of California, Santa Cruz, senior Briana Williford (Piedmont, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Williford, an opposite side hitter, helped her team to three wins last week, two of them coming against ranked opponents. For the week, Williford had 42 kills and 12 blocks. In a win over Mills College, Williford tallied 11 kills by hitting .500 and recorded five blocks. She also produced 13 kills and six blocks against regionally ranked Menlo College. In a four-game upset over nationally ranked CSU East Bay, Williford compiled 18 kills, hitting .433, and one block. Seven of her 18 kills came in game four. Williford, who is coached by Selene Teitelbaum, currently leads the Banana Slugs in kills (117) and is second in blocks (22).


Badejo receives Association of Division III Independents men's soccer Player of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Lincoln (Pa.) University senior midfielder Oluwafemi Badejo (Lagos, Nigeria) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men's soccer Player of the Week for the second week in a row. In two wins last week, Badejo recorded consecutive hat-tricks to raise his goal total to 13 on the season. Badejo scored all of Lincoln's goals on the week, including two game-winning goals. In a 3-2 win over Montgomery County Community College, Badejo netted the game-winner in the 108th minute of the second overtime, while his game winner against Juniata College came in the 69th minute. Badejo has now scored at least one goal in seven consecutive games, leading Lincoln to a 6-2 overall record. Badejo is coached by Sylvester Corbie.

 

Shadd selected as Association of Division III Independents women's soccer Player of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Cal State East Bay senior midfielder Ashley Shadd (Edmonton, Alberta) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women's soccer Player of the Week. Shadd netted two game-winners on the week, one in a 5-1 victory over Dominican University (Calif.) and the other in a 3-1 win over Chapman University. Shadd's performance included four of her team's eight goals and one assist. Her team-leading seven goals have helped the Pioneers improve to 4-5-1 overall.
