Mawson receives Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Newbury College sophomore forward John Mawson (Amherst, Mass.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week. Mawson racked up six goals on the week, leading his team to a 2-1 record. He scored all four Newbury goals in a 4-0 win over Daniel Webster College and he added two more goals later in the week. Mawson boasts 15 goals on the season along with 31 points.

Michaux honored as Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Salem College freshman midfielder Michala Michaux (Morganton, N.C.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. After a scoreless first half, the Spirits exploded for three second-half goals, all from Michaux, to help lead Salem to their first NCAA soccer victory in school history, 3-0 over Trinity University of Washington, D.C. Michaux is coached by Jay Callahan.

Laws named Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Newbury College senior middle blocker Taraja Laws (Easton, Pa.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Laws helped her team to a 4-0 record on the week by recording 31 blocks, 15 service aces and 30 kills. She came up with 15 kills, six aces and five blocks against Eastern Nazarene, aiding Newbury to a come-from-behind victory after dropping the first two sets. Laws now has 411 kills, 55 aces and 239 blocks on the season as Newbury has won 12 out of their last 14 games.
