MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PATRICK McGINNIS
Colorado College
Senior | Forward | Colorado Springs, CO/ Air Academy HS

Patrick McGinnis has been the most dominant offensive player in Division III this season, and the All-America and Player of the Year candidate is the Association of Division III Independents Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the third time this year. He helped lead Colorado College to a Pool B berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Down 1-0 on the road in the second half against fellow independent Nebraska-Wesleyan, Colorado College rallied to beat the Prairie Wolves, 3-1, behind McGinnis’ eighth hat trick of the season. He scored all three goals in the second half. He tied the game on a penalty kick just 3:56 (48:56) into the second half, and then put the Tigers ahead for good with his second penalty kick just under seven minutes later. McGinnis, the NCAA leader in both goals (38) and points (84), added an unassisted goal in the 71st minute. With the victory, the Tigers improved to 16-3-1, the most wins for the program since the 1992 team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship and finished with an 18-2-2 record. The last time CC had 16 victories in the regular season was 1984 when the Tigers had a 17-6-1 ledger.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LIZZELLE CINTRON
New Jersey City University
Freshman | Middle Blocker | Newark , NJ / Elizabeth HS

Lizzelle Cintron, the NCAA Division III leader in kills per game by nearly one per game, was an obvious choice as Most Valuable Player of the inaugural Independents Northeast Regional Tournament after averaging a mind-boggling 9.00 kills and 10.58 points per game, with 4.92 digs, 1.38 blocks, and a .485 hitting percentage (117-22-196), including 39 kills in the championship match alone. In those four matches, she had 117 kills, 64 digs, 18 blocks, and 137.5 points. She is an easy choice as the Association of Division III Independents Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the seventh time this season and the sixth week in a row. She also was tabbed as the ECAC Division III Player of the Week—awarded to the top Division III player on the east coast—for the fifth time in nine weeks.

Cintron has had a season that will be remembered not only for records that may never be touched, but also for helping NJCU earn its first postseason appearance in the 22-year history of the University. NJCU, winners of 20 consecutive matches and a school record 30 victories (30-5) will compete in the ECAC Southern Regional championships this weekend.

The Gothic Knights won all four matches on November 5-6 to claim the championship of the Independents Northeast Regional. In the final against Russell Sage, which had a 25-10 record entering the match, she belted a four-game school-record 39 kills (39-8-69) and hit .449 with 20 digs, five blocks, and 44.5 points. The 39 kills marked the eighth time this season she has had 30 or more kills in a match, and was the third time she has had at least 38 in a contest. She was one shy of her personal-best mark of 40, and three shy of the single-match school record of 42.

In addition, those 39 kills brought her season total to 810, which rank fifth in NCAA Division III single-season history, since the inception of the 30-point rally-scoring format.

She also became NJCU’s single-season school record holder for attack attempts (1458), digs (614), and total blocks (124) last week, and with 108 solo stuffs, is one shy of tying that record.
