Hammond earns Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Green Mountain College senior forward/center Doug Hammond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. Hammond helped the Eagles to a 1-1 week, giving them a 3-1 overall record. In a 100-81 loss to Bard College, Hammond dropped 37 points, 15 rebounds and added five blocks. He scored 21 points and tallied 15 boards and nine blocks in an 86-60 win over Johnson. On the week, he averaged 29 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks per game on 23-of-34 shooting (67.6%).

 

Joyce named Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of California-Santa Cruz senior point guard Talia Joyce (Carson City, Nev.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. Joyce helped her team to a 3-0 week on 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and six assists per game. In a 74-69 win over Dominican, she posted nine points, nine rebounds and six assists and added nine points, four rebounds and five assists in a 73-60 victory over Pomona-Pitzer. She capped the week with 13 points, seven boards and seven dimes in a 67-55 win over Claremont. On the season, UCSC is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.
