Murphy named Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) sophomore forward Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, N.Y.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. Murphy led the Monks to a 64-41 victory over Maine-Farmington on Tuesday, Nov. 21. On the game, he shot 10-of-13 from the floor and was 6-of-7 from the free throw line on his way to a game-high 26 points. He also grabbed eight boards and had seven steals. Murphy is coached by Rob Sanicola.

 

Buckley receives Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week award

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Green Mountain College freshman forward Emma Buckley (Lakeville, Conn.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. On the week, Buckley averaged 11.5 points per game, 13 rebounds per game and four blocks per game as she helped her team to a pair of victories. Against Southern Vermont on Nov. 21, she put up nine points, five rebounds and five blocks en route to a 94-57 win. On Nov. 26, she guided the Eagles to a narrow 52-49 victory over Johnson State by scoring 14 points and ripping down 21 boards. She also added three blocks in the win. Buckley is coached by Jen Heath.

The Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week awards program begins on September 11, 2006 and is based on nominations from the organization's member schools.
