MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Most Valuable Player of the 2004 Gothic Knight Tip-Off Tournament, Devin Davis helped #39 ranked New Jersey City University win its own tournament for a third consecutive time by averaging 20.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. He is the first Association of Division III Independents Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this year.

In his first game at NJCU after transferring from Brookdale Community College, Davis, a 6-5 small forward, scored 31 points, with 13 rebounds, six assists, five blocks, and two steals while shooting 14-for-18 from the floor in the Knights’ 79-72 win over New York City College of Technology. Then, in Saturday’s championship game, he grabbed 18 rebounds (seven offensive, 11 defensive) and added 10 points, four assists and two blocks, as NJCU rallied from a 17-point deficit to defeat Baruch College by double figures, 82-71.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sophomore forward Brooke Warner averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, and helped #23 ranked Thomas More finish 1-1 at the competitive Capital Classic. She is the first Association of Division III Independents Women’s Basketball Player of the Week this season.

Warner opened her season by scoring 25 points, while hauling down nine rebounds (five offensive) and shooting 11-of-17 (.647) from the floor as the Saints outlasted Calvin College, 74-64. Her 11 field goals tied a tournament record for total field goals converted. In the game’s deciding run, she hit for 10 of TMC’s 17 points.

She also had a solid effort in a 64-59 championship game loss to the host team, #13 ranked Capital University. In that game, the 5-foot-9 forward finished with 11 points, nine rebounds (six offensive) and three steals.
