Carney named Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chapman University junior guard Patrick Carney (Lake Forest, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. In two Chapman wins, Carney averaged 26 points per game, five rebounds per game, three assists per game, and shot an astounding 67.9% from the field. He also shot 91% from the charity stripe. In a 135-122 win over Redlands, Carney put up a career-high 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including 8-of-8 from the free throw line and two three pointers. He led all scorers with 23 points on a 9-of-15 shooting performance in Chapman’s 68-52 victory over Cal Lutheran. For the season, Carney leads the Panthers with 20.3 points per game and has six three pointers in four games. Carney, who is coached by Mike Bokosky, has helped Chapman to a 4-0 start, the team’s best since the 2000-01 season.

 

Chabot receives Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of California-Santa Cruz senior guard/forward Jenna Chabot (Sonora, Calif.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. In three games this week, Chabot averaged 18.7 points and six rebounds per game. She also hit 12 of 23 three pointers, good for a 52% mark. In a loss to Dominican University (55-60), Chabot had a career-high 21 points, 16 of which came in the second half, and she tied a school record for most threes made in a game with five. Three nights later, she helped the Banana Slugs defeat Pomona Pitzer, 85-76, and broke the school record for most three pointers made in a game as she went 6-9 from beyond the arc, en route to another 21-point night. In a 63-49 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Chabot led UCSC with 12 points and hit her 12 th three pointer of the week. Chabot, who is coached by Nikki Turner, leads the 1-3 Slugs with 15.8 points per game.
