McQuillan Named Association of Division III Independents

Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winner for December

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Ashley McQuillan, a point guard for St. Joseph's College (NY) women's basketball team was named today as the recipient of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month award for December 2008.

McQuillan, a freshman from Brooklyn, NY, was a two-time AD3I Player of the Week for the weeks of December 2 and December 12, 2008. For the month of December, McQuillan averaged 18.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.3 assists. Her month was capped by a 34 point, 5 steal performance in an 81-73 comeback win over Southern Vermont on December 13. The 34 points currently stands as the fourth highest individual game scoring total in Division III this season. McQuillan's 34-point performance followed up a 33-point tally against Penn State Berks two weeks earlier, which tied her for fifth spot in the same category.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2008-09.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.

All competing student-athletes from the Association’s 17 members were eligible for the award.  Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from December. The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
