Association of Division III Independents
Names November Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winners

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Christine Fisher, a swimmer from Mills College, and Chris Rosenthal, a forward on the New Jersey City University soccer team, were named today as the recipients of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month awards for November.

Fisher, a freshman from Davis, CA, set seven school records in a span of nine days. Against Chapman November 5, Fisher won the 100 breast and bettered her school record in the 50 free with a time of 26.51. The following day, Fisher led the 400 free relay team as it broke the school record by five seconds (4:17.18).

On November 12, Fisher helped the 200 free relay team set a school record with a 1:55:64. She also finished second in the 50 free but set a school record in the process.

The following day, at the Bay Area Invitational, she broke individual school records in
the 100 breast (1:11.49) and 200 breast (2:38.71), placing second and third, respectively. She also swam the breaststroke leg of another school record in the 400-medley relay.

Rosenthal, a junior from Kearny, NJ, led the Gothic Knights to their first ever
Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Metro title. In four games, NJCU outscored its opponents, 18-2, and tied the single-season record for victories (17-7). Rosenthal scored seven goals and added five assists for 19 points in those four games. He scored the game-winner in two of the four games. He finished the year with 25 goals and nine assists for 59 points, breaking the previous single-season records for goals and points. His 25 goals were the third most of any player in Division III this season, while his 59 points ranked fourth in the nation. NJCU notched 90 goals as a team, the second most of any school in the country.

In the ECAC quarterfinals November 10, he tied the single-game school record for points with nine. In that game, a 9-1 win over FDU-Florham, he had three goals and three assists in only 46 minutes.

Rosenthal was named the Most Valuable Player of the ECAC championship tournament as NJCU defeated Manhattanville, 3-1. He contributed two assists and his 25th goal of the year to seal the victory.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports in 2004-05. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. For the first time, the Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce all-Independent teams at the conclusion of 11 sports this year.

All student-athletes from the Association’s 17 members were eligible for the award. Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from November. The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
