Castillo, Myrick Receive January Honors Castillo, a junior from Dallas, TX, averaged 16.7 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game in 10 January games, six of which were victories. Born in Spain, Castillo has led UD to a 9-5 record since her arrival from a semester in Rome. She was honored as the USCAA and AD3I player of the week, and was named to the D3hoops.com team of the week January 10-15 for leading her team to a 3-1 record; she averaged 21 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals during the week. She scored 37 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in one game during the 3-1 road trip. For the season, she averages 15.4 points per game (216 points), 8.6 rebounds per game (123 rebounds) and 1.7 steals per game (24). She has shot 54.2 percent from the field (71-for-131) and 77.8 percent from the line (70-for-90). Castillo speaks fluent Spanish and has a 3.71 grade-point average. Myrick, who also won the student-athlete of the month award in December, led Lincoln to a 7-1 record in January by averaging 29.1 points, 9.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game. Myrick was named MVP of a pair of tournaments (Franklin & Marshall and Manhattanville), and had four double-doubles during the month. Myrick made 50.8 percent of his field goal attempts (95-for-187). He scored 24 points and handed out 15 assists in a 101-77 win over Juniata. Myrick added 25 points and 11 assists to help Lincoln defeat Franklin & Marshall, 101-77, and win F&M's tournament for the first time in school history. Myrick ended January leading Division III in scoring (31.1) and fourth in assists (7.3). Overall, Lincoln finished January with an 18-4 record and ranked No. 22 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. In eight games during the month of January, Lincoln scored over 100 points five times and averaged 100.4 points per game in January. The Association of Division III Independents consists of 19 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2005-06. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. For the second year, the Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce all-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year. All student-athletes from the Association’s 19 members were eligible for the award. Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from January. The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
