Brechter, Jarbo Named Association of Division III Independents

Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winners for September

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Renee Brechter, a forward for the Green Mountain College soccer team, and Peter Jarbo, a forward for Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), were named today as the recipients of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month awards for September.

Brechter, a junior recreation major from Landenberg, PA, has had an outstanding start to the season. In 10 games, she has scored 15 goals and dished out five assists in leading her team to a perfect 10-0 record. “Renee provides her team with energy and leadership,” said Jamie Ventura, head women’s soccer coach and athletics director.  “Although she is the team leader in goals, she always does what is best for the team and makes the right play. She draws double teams from our opponents but still finds a way to make things happen and get the job done.”

Jarbo, a junior from Philadelphia,  finished September ranked 13th nationally in goals per game and 20th in scoring per game. He scored nine goals during the month, including his 30th career tally. Jarbo collected his fifth career hat trick, and scored game-winning goals in a pair of 2-1 victories over Division II Columbia Union and John Jay College.  In addition to his hat trick, Jarbo also had two other multi-goal scoring games.  Jarbo scored both goals in a 3-2 loss to Division II Wilmington College, ranked ninth in the latest Northeast Region coaches poll.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 24 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.

All competing student-athletes from the Association’s 24 members were eligible for the award.  Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from September.  The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
