Jeffreys, Harrington Named Association of Division III Independents

Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winners for February

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Basketball student-athletes Alva Jeffreys of Mitchell College and Victor Harrington of Finlandia University were named today as the recipients of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month awards for February.  Jeffreys also won the award in January.

A senior business administration major from Bridgeport, CT, Jeffreys continued her hot streak through the month of February as she was a key contributor in Mitchell's 12-game winning streak, losing only to Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) in the AD3I Women’s Northeast Championship title game.  Jeffreys averaged 28.4 points per game in the 10 games for the Pequots.  She shot 49 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.  Jeffreys also averaged just fewer than five steals a game for the month.  Her highest point tally in February was a 44-point effort in Mitchell's win over Becker.

Harrington, a senior graphic design major from Chassell, MI, led team during February by averaging 26.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.  He hit 58.5 percent of his field-goal attempts during five contests (the Lions went 2-3).  Harrington, who was named to the all-tournament team at the AD3I Men’s Midwest Championship, finished his career with averages of 19.2 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game and a field-goal percentage of 48.3 percent.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 25 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.

All competing student-athletes from the Association’s 25 members were eligible for the award.  Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from February.  The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
