Chiaramonte, Hadzinsky Named Association of Division III Independents 2010-11 Student-Athletes of the Year
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) named softball pitcher and outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte, from St. Joseph’s College (N.Y.), and soccer goalkeeper and baseball second baseman Tyler Hadzinsky, from Chapman University, its 2010-2011 Student-Athletes of the Year. Chiaramonte, a junior from Staten Island, N.Y., is a repeat Student-Athlete of the Year winner and was named the 2011 AD3I Pitcher of the Year. The dual-position player led St. Joseph’s to a 26-9 record by going 17-3 in the circle and tossing two no-hitters. She compiled a 1.11 ERA with 154 strikeouts and just 12 walks, leaving her with a better than 12 to one strikeout to walk ratio. She ranked in the top three in many of the AD3I’s major pitching categories and was awarded with First Team All-Independent honors. She also garnered one Player of the Week nod during the 2011 season and was the Student-Athlete of the Month for March. Chiaramonte paced her team on the opposite side of the plate as well. She accumulated a team-leading .475 batting average with a .646 slugging percentage and a .527 on-base percentage. Additionally, she produced 47 hits, 37 RBI, two home runs, three triples and a pair of doubles. Hadzinsky, a senior from San Clemente, Calif., excelled on both the soccer pitch and the baseball diamond. He was named to the ABCA All-West Region team for the first time in his career after leading the Div. III runner’s up with a .331 batting average and 16 stolen bases. He also contributed 30 RBI, nine doubles and a .962 fielding percentage on his way to First Team All-Independent recognition. Additionally, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team in baseball for the third time. Inside the posts, Hadzinsky became Chapman’s all-time career leader with a 0.70 goals against average. Last fall, he compiled a 0.81 GAA with 82 saves and six shutouts in 14 starts and 1,333 minutes. For his efforts, he was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and garnered First Team All-Independent honors. The business major was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team in soccer for a second time. The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2010-11. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.
