Nebraska Wesleyan and Concordia battled back and forth in a hard fought GPAC men's basketball contest with the Prairie Wolves coming out on top 76-70 on Wednesday night (Feb. 5) at Snyder Arena.
With the win, the Prairie Wolves complete the season sweep over the Bulldogs for the first time since the 2007-08 season. NWU improves to 11-9 overall and 6-9 in GPAC with their second consecutive win.
The Bulldogs led 30-27 at halftime and built that lead up to seven points early in the second half. NWU fought back and overtook the lead 40-39 on a layup by Trent Scheitel. Concordia would get the lead right back on their next possession on a layup by Chandler Folkerts.
A 3-pointer by Eric Jackson with 12:49 remaining put NWU up by one point and they would not trail again. The Prairie Wolves went on a 9-1 run over a three minute stretch to get ahead by 12 points 61-49 with 5:44 left.
Trey Bardsley went 8-8 at the free throw line in the final 1:10 to seal the win for the Prairie Wolves.
Bardsley led the way for NWU for the second straight game with 19 points, going 12-12 at the free throw line. Eric Jackson scored 16 points hitting 4-5 from 3-point range. Jonah Bradley scored 12 points and Trevor Johnson chipped in 10 points.
Concordia was led by Robby Thomas who had the hot hand from 3-point range with 21 points on 5-9 from long distance.
NWU now hits the road for an important game at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City on Saturday.
