Ponce Named Association of Division III Independents Male Student-Athlete of the Month for November

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents named University of California Santa Cruz men's basketball junior guard Jared Ponce its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of November.

Ponce, a junior from Chino Hills, California, started his 2014-15 season on a high note scoring 20-plus points in three of the Banana Slugs' first four games, including 23 points in the team's win over Linfield on November 23rd. The junior finished the contest 6-for-10 from the field and 9-for-12 from the charity stripe as UC Santa Cruz earned a 59-50 victory. Ponce also poured in 21 points against Dallas in the season opener on November 15th and dropped in 22 points in the Banana Slugs win over Redlands on November 17th. The guard scored in double figures in all but one of UC Santa Cruz's seven games during the month and was named AD3I Player of the Week in Week 1. The junior averaged 16.7 points per game in November, shot 83.3 percent from the foul line and added 3.1 rebounds per game.
