OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The College of New Rochelle freshman forward Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, N.Y.) has been awarded the Association of Division III Independents men's basketball Player of the Week. Schenkel averaged 28.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on 51.5 percent shooting from the floor for the Blue Angels. The freshman began the week with 30 points on 9-of-17 along with eight rebounds at Pine Manor College on Wednesday. Schenkel concluded the week with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 7-of-12 from downtown against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Sunday. The forward finished with a double-double, adding 11 rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Schenkel shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the charity stripe during the week.
