Barrios Named Association of Division III Independents Male Student-Athlete of the Month for September

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents named St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer defender Bencion Barrios its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September.

Barrios, a junior from Brooklyn, New York, began his Bears career in impressive fashion, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist in St. Joseph's season-opening 4-0 win against The New School on September 11th. Barrios helped lead the Bears to a program-best three-game winning streak at the end of the month, scoring three goals and producing two assists as St. Joseph's reached four wins in a season for the first time in school history. The junior was a key factor in all three games of the streak, scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory at York College on September 25th before setting up a pair of goals in the Bears first ever win over HVIAC rivals Albany Pharmacy on September 28th. Barrios capped off his first month at St. Joseph's with a pair of goals versus Webb Institute on September 30th to move the Bears to 4-3 on the season, their best start in school history. The native of Brooklyn, New York concluded the month with four goals and five assists for a total of 13 points, averaging 1.86 points per game which ranked first in the Association.
