Cardenas takes home Association of Division III Independents men’s cross country Student-Athlete of the Month honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Illinois Institute of Technology freshman Orlando Cardenas (Salida, Calif.) has been chosen as the Association of Division III Independents men's cross country Student-Athlete of the Month for September. Cardenas had an impressive September as he would lead the Scarlet Hawks in all three of the team's meets during the month. He started the season strong at the Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational, as he would finish 30th in the 6k with a time of 20:08.7. His performance helped lift the team to a 10th place finish out of 15 teams. Cardenas' next performance at the Aurora University Spartan classic would be just as good as he would place 35th with a time of 27:09.8 in the 8k. He would finish out the month with an impressive 20th placing at the Augustana College Brissman Lundeen Invitational where his time of 27:30.7 would help lift the Scarlet Hawks to a 19th place finish as a team.
