OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents named Mount Mary University softball catcher Katie Edwards its Female Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of April.
Edwards is a senior from Mackinaw, Illinois. The catcher hit all of her AD3I-leading seven home runs during the month and collected 18 of her 28 RBIs on the year. Edwards batted an impressive .474 (18-for-38) on the month with a .565 on base percentage and 1.026 slugging percentage in 15 games behind the plate. The senior also scored 11 runs and recorded at least one hit in all but three games during April. In a sweep of AD3I member Maranatha Baptist on April 11th, the senior went 3-for-5 with four RBI, a home run and two runs scored. The slugger's best game of the month came on April 22nd against Rockford where she batted 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Blue Angels to a 7-5 game one win. Edwards concluded her season and career with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a win over Maranatha Baptist on April 24th.
