Brandon named Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The College of New Rochelle sophomore center Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, N.J.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week. Brandon had an outstanding week in leading the Blue Angels to a 3-0 record including a triumph in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament championship game. The sophomore turned in a record-breaking game in the championship against Yeshiva, pouring in a school-record 45 points to go along with 17 rebounds and three steals to earn Tournament MVP honors. The center converted on 61.3 percent (19-of-31) of her field goals and scored 11 points in a decisive 13-5 run that sent the game into overtime. Earlier in the week, Brandon dropped in 23 points in a home win over the College at Old Westbury, The College of New Rochelle's first win over the Panthers since the 1999-2000 season. Last season's First Team All-Independent honoree finished the week averaging 32.3 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game, 2.7 steals per game and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field as the Blue Angels are off to their best start since the 1984-85 campaign at 6-1.
