NEW HAVEN, CT – Sophomore Jasmine Brandon upped her own school record for point with a career-high 47 and The College of New Rochelle put a program best 99 points on the scoreboard in knocking off Albertus Magnus College, 99-93, in overtime in a non-conference tilt this afternoon.
Brandon tallied her NCAA DIII-leading third 40+ point game, scoring 32 of her 47 in the second half and overtime, adding a game-high 17 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Jah-Leah Ellis added her 10th double-double with a 25 point, 10 rebound, five assist effort, and Alyssa Pechin tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals to help the Blue Angels to their second straight win.
Lianna Carrero recorded 45 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Falcons.
The 99 point outburst eclipses the previous team record for points in a game, set in a 98-79 win over Rhode Island College in the 1984-85 season.
CNR raced out to a 10-0 lead and led by as many as 21, 40-19, with 3:54 left in the opening stanza before taking an eight point, 40-32, lead into the break.
Albertus Magnus chipped away at the lead, pulling even for the first time since 0-0 following a Carrero layup with 8:56 left made the score 57 apiece. The Falcons took their only lead in regulation, 66-65, on a three-pointer with 6:13 left on the clock and seemingly was headed to a regulation defeat until Carrero sank a three on the final play to knot the score at 84 and send the game into overtime.
The teams traded baskets in the first minutes of overtime before the Blue Angels slowly pulled away, and sank 4-4 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.
