NEW YORK, NY – The College of New Rochelle had double-doubles from Jasmine Brandon and Jah-Leah Ellis, but the Blue Angels did not overcome a slow start, falling to City College of New York, 79-65, tonight at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
Brandon tallied a team-high 19 points to go along with 12 rounds, while Ellis pulled down a game-high 15 caroms, adding 12 points and eight steals. Alyssa Pechin (11 points) and Victoria McCaffrey (10 points) also reached double-figures.
After Brandon scored the first basket of the game, the Beavers ran off a 15-2 run to take an 11 point lead, 15-4, with 14:15 left in the opening stanza. The Blue Angels were able to cut the lead to four, 27-23, with 4:10 left following two Pechin free throws, before CCNY closed out the half with an 8-1 run to extend the lead back to 11, 35-24, heading into the break.
CCNY scored the first two baskets of the second stanza to push the lead to 15, 39-24, and did not allow the lead to dip below nine points the rest of the way to emerge with the victory.
