OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents named Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball pitcher Brody Murphy its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of March.
Murphy, a sophomore from Waverly, Nebraska, earns Student-Athlete of the Month honors for the first time after going 3-1 on the mound with a 2.78 ERA for the Prairie Wolves in four appearances during the month of March. The one-time Player of the Week during the month struck out 17 batters, with just three walks in 22 2/3 innings of work, making three starts and one relief appearance. Murphy began the month by earning a win against Bethany with 4 1/3 innings pitched out of the bullpen on March 2nd. The highlight of the month for the sophomore came against NAIA 10th-ranked University of Jamestown on March 19th. Murphy tossed a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out five to snap Jamestown's 25-game winning streak in a 1-0 victory.
