New Rochelle Basketball Posts Strong Win Over NYU-Poly

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle snapped a five-game losing streak with a solid, 77-67, non-conference home win over NYU-Poly tonight at the Wellness Center.  Jah-Leah Ellis joined five players in double figures with 14 points while pulling down a game-high 26 rebounds.
Ellis' rebound total is the highest for a Blue Angel since Ruchelle Austin tallied multiple 20+ rebound games during the 2007-08 season, en route to leading NCAA DIII in rebounds per game (17.9).
Jasmine Brandon tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds despite being held to 20 minutes due to foul trouble.  Alyssa Pechin also recorded a team-leading 15 points and a team-high six assists.  Pechin has now eclipsed 900 career points.
In the final matchup between the two programs before NYU-Poly and NYU combine athletic departments, the two teams traded baskets in the early going before, with the score tied at 8-8, the teams traded 7-0 runs over the next six minutes to make the score 15-15 with 10 minutes remaining in the opening stanza.  The Blue Angels slowly built a six point lead and maintained that advantage, 39-33, at the break.
CNR opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 14 point lead and did not allow the lead to dip below 10 points the rest of the way.
